What an incredible show! Megan and Chris, you absolutely brought the house down! FABULOUS job. It was such a treat to see you play live and know that it's a matter of (not much) time before we get to see you perform again!!
YAY!!

Re: WOWEE!
Mon, May 30, 2005 - 2:41 PMYou guys made a dream come true. Watching you perform live the music that I've been listening to for years - and getting to perform WITH YOU!!!! - was like walking into a fantasy. And having it happen in a country bar in Brisbane only added to the surrealism of it all. A brilliant evening.
Thank you two for coming down here and sharing yourselves with us, our community, YOUR FANS, and the world. I'm thankful and happy that you've discovered something like this. I look forward to sharing more incredible times.
I guess what I'm saying is... I like doin' stuff witchoo, no matter what the stuff is. Playin' tunes or sniffin' glue, I like doin' stuff witchoo. -

Re: WOWEE!
Mon, May 30, 2005 - 8:43 PMThank you, Holly! Thank you, Chris! Oh, thank you so very, very much. Having you perform with us was an honor and a great joy, not just because you're two of the most important people in our lives (seriously--our moms haven't done as much for us as you have), but because we LOVE the way you added to our songs. We can't WAIT for the chance to record with you. Thank you so much for making our first-ever live performance into something we will never, ever forget, far surpassing all our dreams. -

Tue, May 31, 2005 - 10:36 AMYou guys had me on the verge of tears. I imagine that it is similarto watching you child succeed at something that you've hoped for them for years. The epicocity of your performace was not missed by anyone there, and if they did miss it then they must have been dead. -

Re: WOWEE!
Wed, June 1, 2005 - 12:16 AMGod, Ben, you put everything so beautifully--and we really do feel the kind of support from you guys that we wish we had felt from our parents. The way the three of you talk about this performance is like the way most people talk about their own achievements, and hearing you say that you're proud of us makes it feel like you really WERE our parents, or, more accurately, our fairy godmothers, because you've made things happen to us that would NEVER have happened without you. It's overwhelming to feel this kind of love from people who were strangers to us just four years ago.
OK, this is personal, but, damn it, I'm gonna say it. The last few years, I've been close to suicidal, and ever since we came down to see Ugly Child, my Chris has tried to remind me that we could always come back down here and find happiness living among you all. At the time, I was too far gone to believe anything would help, so I was like Tony with a bullet in my back and he was Maria singing "There's a place for us" while the sirens came screaming up. The difference is that I didn't die--he was able to drag me to the car and haul my ass down the coast, where Chris and Holly supported us while we prepared for a show that I never thought we could pull off, but we did it--it really worked--and now because of Misha we have ANOTHER place to stay for a good chunk of time, and it's like the song came true and Tony lived, and there really WAS a place for us, not so much with the peace and quiet and open air, but a kickass view of the city, and--
Well, I'm just sayin'. It's pretty cool. -

Re: WOWEE!
Wed, June 1, 2005 - 6:10 AMThat's awesome! I wish I could have been there. Maybe Lave Toad can accompany PlasterKatz on its East Coast tour, whenever that happens.
You'll be staying with Misha for a while then? -

Re: WOWEE!
Wed, June 1, 2005 - 10:19 AMActually, the apartment is their's until the lease is up on the 19th. I've moving out!
Good luck on the job hunt you two. -

Re: WOWEE!
Wed, June 1, 2005 - 10:28 AMThat same appartment that used to house the Zegri's all that time ago? Wouldn't it be cool if Chris and Megan renewed the lease and stayed there? You know, to keep that apartment in "the family"? For old times sake?
Nothing really special about it, but it does have a great view and some pretty freakin' awesome history. -
-
Re: WOWEE!
Wed, June 1, 2005 - 10:41 AMIt may be a little too expensive for what they have in mind right now and Rey wants to get off the lease anyway.
Still, it does have some amazing history... -

Re: WOWEE!
Wed, June 1, 2005 - 11:38 AMI just gave Megan a little synapsis of the history of that apartment. I remember I lived on the 6th floor, I would come up to party and back to my apartment to sleep. Ahhhhh...the good old days, when it was cheap and ghetto.
I heard it's really expensive now though. It is in a great location! -
-
Re: WOWEE!
Sun, June 5, 2005 - 12:59 AM(Dang it--not only am I four days behind, but my posts are all threaded out of order. Sorry!)
Yeah, that was a great e-mail, Erica--thanks! It was so cool to hear about this apartment's sexy, sordid past.
So, it used to be cheap here? That's amazing, what with the view and, like you said, the great location. But, yes, Misha is right about our current needs: an actual ghetto. If we have to dodge bullets to get from the door to the mailbox, we may be able to afford it.
Then again, if I just had THREE more regular editing clients and Chris could get a job in a bookstore or music store (or, better, in orchestrating or location recording), we'd do just fine. Until then, we'll try the temp agency Laura recommended (thank you very much!).
You know what I'd really like to do, though? I wish we had a truck and we could go around collecting junk. When we were leaving Seattle and had to get rid of our couch, most places we called said they would charge $60 to pick it up. (We ended up getting a theater to take it for free--it's going to be in a play.) Anyway, I realized I would really like that job: advertising on Craigslist to pick up people's old furniture and stuff, and charging whatever the dump would charge us, plus a small hauling fee. Then, if it was good stuff, we could keep it or give it away. And a truck is always a good thing to have anyway; we'd never have to rent a U-Haul again.
So that's where I see us in five years.

Sat, June 4, 2005 - 11:05 PM"You know, to keep that apartment in 'the family' . . .?"
Thanks, Heather. We're VERY glad to be considered family.
(Hey, we just noticed a growth chart on one of the bedroom door jambs. WAS THAT FOR CHRISTINA??? Jesus CHRIST, that IS an awesome history!!)

Re: WOWEE!
Sat, June 4, 2005 - 11:01 PM"I wish I could have been there."
Thanks, Heather! Yes, what Misha says is true--thank you so much, Misha, for saving our lives. AND thank you for the kickass review under Local Favorites! (We've seen you every day since you wrote it, but we only just read it. You are too kind!!)
Hey, speaking of Local Favorites, that reminds me . . .
OK, done. I've just changed my profile and Chris's to show our location as SF Bay Area. We don't yet have jobs, permanent homes, or California ID, but as far as Tribe goes, we are now official residents of this state.
On the subject of driver's licenses, is the rumor true that . . . who was it . . . Rick or Rey? . . . didn't have one until recently? I'm curious, because I just got a letter from the Washington DMV that mine will be suspended if I don't pay this certain insurance company $2200 by June something, because of this . . . thing I did. My Chris thinks that's a sign that we were meant to move down here. And I guess it IS kind of a sign--in the way that if you hear on the intercom "Security to Aisle Seven," it's a sign that you should take that thing out of your pocket and put it back on the shelf. I just hope the California DMV isn't in cahoots with the one in Washington--but if they are, I can always do like the Zegris did, at least according to legend. (How did that work out for you, anyway? I've always wondered.) -

Re: WOWEE!
Sun, June 5, 2005 - 10:18 AMRe Drivers License changes. I did this a few times and it differs from state to state.
When I moved from Califoirnia to Illinois, I had to surrender my license and they had to check my record for bad stuff. When I moved back to California from Illinois they let me keep the Illinois license but they put a hole in it to show it was invalid and they issued a new one. Of course in my case, I had nothing on my record at the time. I'm not sure if they check with the other state but I want to say no because they issued the new license to me really quickly without doing any computer shit. They just entered the info, took my money and that's it!
If you were moving to say, Illinois, then you could be in trouble but I think you're okay. I never got an Illinois DL again so I've been running around with my California license because I owe about 350 bucks in tickets to the City of San Francisco that I refuse to pay and I know Illinois would make me pay it before they issued a new license. It's a principle thing. Unfortunately, I'll have to pay it when I register my car. I guess it's too late to fight those charges.
My point is, (a long one obviously) it won't hurt to try. The worst they can say is they cannot issue you a new one until your resolve the other issue. Just make sure you do it before that June date you mentioned. You have probably already done it but here's the DMV website. It makes no mention of other states records.

And re Zegri Drivers Licenses, did Rey get a license? If so, I think I'm going to faint. Rey has alwasy refused. Rick just got one, what 4 years ago? -

Re: WOWEE!
Sun, June 5, 2005 - 3:10 PMThanks, Erica! So, in other words, you think California is less discriminating than places like Illinois about issuing licenses? I hope so. Thanks for the link!
I'm VERY, VERY curious to know about the Zegri stance on driver's licenses. I guess I should ask them. I may be wrong that Rey got one, but I thought I read at the Zegri tribe that one of them just did. Maybe they were just talking about Rick's having gotten one several years ago, and everyone was still reeling from that. -

Re: WOWEE!
Mon, June 6, 2005 - 5:57 AMIf one of them *just* did, I guess it must have been Rey. Probably didn't want to see his daughter get one before he did.
They got/get around primarily on the good will of others. And by living in a small city with one of the best public transportation systems around.

Wed, June 1, 2005 - 11:43 AMYeah, good times in that shitty little apartment. I sofa surfed there for years. Lot's of partying and I've had sex on that living room floor more than a couple times. (Toads, don't smell the carpet!!) -

Re: WOWEE!
Wed, June 1, 2005 - 11:47 AMAnd with more than a few partners, I'd wager! Even *I've* had sex on that living room floor. That carpet can't be any worse off than the rug at the Compound that P-Katz rehearse on, though. -

Re: WOWEE!
Sun, June 5, 2005 - 5:56 PM"I did it with Rick."
Now that's FUNNY. And if anyone is disturbed by that who wasn't disturbed by the Crumpled Napkin post telling our moms to get their faces out of our dead uncle's poop shoots, I would be very surprised indeed. (Not complaining, Rick! Just holding you up as a sort of pinata of free speech, to be whacked until you explode.)
In any case, as members of this tribe, my Chris and I want to register our votes that all members feel free to write about whatever they want, and if anyone is offended, it can then be discussed at whatever length necessary. -

Sun, June 5, 2005 - 2:41 AM"'Jesus Christ in edible panties, you freaks, is this the right place for this conversation?'
"Agreed!!!"
Wait--Agreed that it IS the right place, or agreed that Callahan had a good question there? I'll assume the latter. But before I continue . . .
FIRST: I'm deeply sorry to anyone who came here because s/he saw there were seven new posts, only to find that EVERY GODDAMN ONE was by me. I'm trying desperately to go to bed, but things keep fucking up--my posts keep threading wrong, and I'm worried Trey will think I'm ignoring his post because my responses don't show up until the very end--and then I made TWO mistakes in my last post ("Now I need to go to bed now" and "be back tomorrow continue"). That would be fine except that I'm desperate for editing jobs, and I can't expect any referrals if I go around making mistakes like these without correcting them.
SECOND: Trey! Callahan! Whence this fit of squeamishness? I've heard some of the raunchiest filth come out of the mouths of both of you, so your sudden bashfulness is bewildering to say the least. But, more important, if the Lava Toad tribe isn't the right place for free speech, what is?
I'm not saying we Lava Toads aren't offended by ANYTHING--on the contrary, damn near everything offends us!--and I certainly don't expect our members OR our moderator to sit by in silence if something truly upsets them. But sex on the living room floor? Between (I assume) consenting human adults? I've read filthier stuff in the Miles Davis tribe, from his pre-neutered days. I'm just confused here.
(Unless . . . unless you're bothered by the SMELL everyone keeps referring to. Well, in case that's it, I hope it will help to know that it's REALLY not that bad. You can BARELY smell it.)

Re: WOWEE!
Sun, June 5, 2005 - 1:39 AM"(Toads, don't smell the carpet!!)"
Oh, yeah--like we could smell anything ELSE.
(OK, now if THIS post gets threaded correctly, it's going to look like I DELIBERATELY tacked my replies to Trey on at the very end--and then anyone who happened to read a certain post I'm told he wrote at a certain OTHER tribe [which I myself did not read] will assume I DID read it and got offended and now I'm taking revenge by dissing Trey yet again. I'M NOT! I SWEAR!!! YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE ME!!!!!)
Now I need to go to bed now so I can vacate Misha's bedroom tomorrow morning when he needs it, but I'll be back tomorrow continue with the swearing and protesting.
