We are all well aware of the dulcet tones of Megan's angelic voice.
We are all well aware of the super-human stylings of Chris on instrument of choice.
But no one ever really talks about Uncle Joe, and that is too bad because Uncle Joe, well, he touches me deep, deep inside. Sure his playing may be a little sloppy and his meter, and tempo, and rythm sometimes take a back seat when he's pouring his heart out, but man, that's his soul he's showing you, and if he can't seem to keep it all together for a few moments that's probably because he's trying to get through the song without having a nervous breakdown. With every grinding note that he sings I sense years and years of pain and torment. I don't personally know the man but I've shared in his agony and have come out the other side a stronger human being.
I think everyone should open themselves up to Uncle Joe and let him touch them the way he has touched me.

Re: Wonderful Uncle Joe
Mon, May 23, 2005 - 7:09 PMOh, man, you guys are killin' us. Chris and Holly downstairs must think we're being stabbed. Fuck. Ben, that is--oh, man, that is just--I'm speechless. No one has ever said anything like that to us about Lava Toad. I'm trying to think of whether I can pass it on to Joe . . . I know I'd LOVE a compliment like that, but . . . oh, hell, yeah--who wouldn't? WHAT'S MORE IMPORTANT THAN SOUL?
For anyone who hasn't heard our CD yet, everything Ben says about Uncle Joe is God's own truth, and I couldn't have said it better myself--or anywhere near as well. I dearly hope you will put that on our web site.
(Hey, is it really true that everyone is well aware of those things you said about me and Chris? 'Cause no one ever really talks about that, either. Not that I'm complaining--I'm confident in our ability to rock. It's just nice to hear.)
And Callahan, your words are equally wise. Perhaps not as moving, but I laughed so hard I coughed up my larynx, and that has its own rewards. I hope you will feel the same when you see the bloodstains on your carpet.
Sounds like the ambulance just arrived, so I'll be off.
